The Evolution & The Gift of Conscious Wholeness

In 2009 my life was changing.

One of my senior photos taken while earning my undergrad degree.

I was a senior at Boston University and I was thinking about that big life question – “what’s next?”

I’ve always known what I want in life in terms of the impact I want to have. The path to MAKE that impact has not always been so clear. 

In 2009, I remember sitting on the front porch of my apartment building smoking a cigarette with a friend. We talked about the episode of LOST we’d just watched. Then, somehow, the conversation turned to who we wanted to be in the world.

I told him that I wanted to develop & teach psychological theory.
I believed I could make the world a better place by helping people feel happier. 

When I reflect over the last 10 years, this is still one thing I know for sure. If I can help people feel better, I can change the world. (So can you). This is what drives me, it always has.

At that time, I knew little of real happiness.

My most enjoyable moments were fueled by nicotine, booze, & uppers. 

I thought that happiness was about suppressing all of my pain – so I could keep smiling and stay positive. So I could keep grinding for success in our system & receive all the material pleasures that success offers. 

Since then, in my quest for true happiness, my life has opened me up to so much more than that.

Years later, with some work experience and therapy under my belt, came another huge realization about how I wanted to contribute to the world. 

I hated seeing the ways our social, healthcare, and government systems oppress people every day.

Our system is a reflection of the values it was built upon. We all (often unknowingly) reinforce these values inside of ourselves & in our relationships every single day. The values I’m referring to here are rooted in our assumptions about what it means to be poor, or to be mentally ill, or to have different skin color or sexual preference or gender. 

We’ve created a system that sorts us all into uncomfortable boxes that allow a few of us can stand on top to take in the beautiful view.

As my systemic discomfort grew, I started referring to my big vision (very privately) as my Martin Luther King Jr. goal.

I’ve idolized MLK Jr. since I was a kid. I realize I might be out of place referencing his image this way.

What this goal meant to me was that in order to help people feel HAPPIER, I needed to help everyone feel EQUAL and FREE too. I needed to create a world where we can all feel safe and good enough exactly as we are. We need to feel that our contributions are valuable, whatever those contributions may be.

After 10 years, I stand before you with an imperfect life.

I don’t have all the money in the world, or all the power, all the respect, or all the opportunity that I’d like. There are absolutely still things I’m working on, things I’m calling in, goals I’m moving towards every day. I’m discovering new desires every step of the way.

What I *DO* have is a clear understanding of exactly how to feel freer, safer, more satisfied and truly happy at any moment regardless of what’s going on around me.

In the absence of everything and everyone else, I could explore my own body and mind for eternity. I know how to find faith and trust in myself, how to find strength and freedom from there. I know how to BE with myself, finding deep pleasure & love in my quietest moments.

This doesn’t mean that I always feel amazing. I cry, get angry, doubt, lose faith. I grieve when I lose people & things I love and sometimes I fear my own death.

What’s different is that I KNOW how to honor these feelings and shift them into a more empowering place whenever I want to. I have the awareness and strategies to notice sooner & bring myself back every single time I step off the track.

Suppressing ourselves in any way is not the answer.

By listening to ourselves, understanding ourselves, loving ourselves, and integrating all of that love into the core of who we are, we become free.  

People say there’s no clear process for how to do this, but they’re wrong. That’s exactly what I’ve created for you in Conscious Wholeness

Conscious Wholeness was previously called Mental Wholeness.

Conscious Wholeness provides strategies and exercises with the power to change your entire life for the better – especially when you commit to a lifelong practice. 

My own Conscious Wholeness provides an inner sense of happiness and freedom that relies on ME and me alone.

Conscious Wholeness cultivates freedom that doesn’t rely on my bank account, my relationships, my job, my “success” in the eyes of others, my living environment, or anything else. 

My Conscious Wholeness allows me to more deeply nurture those parts of my life from a base-level of fulfillment, so I can build a life that’s perfect for me, spreading love & wholeness to everyone I come into contact with. 

These are the foundational tools I use to build emotional intelligence & independence, allowing me to cultivate loving healthy relationships with all other things outside of myself.

For me, this is my first step to pursuing literally anything else.

This is the culmination of all the work I’ve done over the past 10+ years – condensed down into a course you can easily complete in 3 months.

What Happens Now?

This is the final post in a series of 12 discussing Mental Wholeness step by step. If you’re just joining us, check out what you missed: Introduction, Acceptance, Body Buzz, Beliefs, Clarity, Integration (1), Energy, Emotional Alchemy, Boundaries, Trust, Integration (2).

If you’ve made it this far – CONGRATULATIONS!! That’s no small feat, and I hope you’re feeling more mentally whole already. I’m celebrating you.

I promised I’d be back with some guidance about where to take this next.

The way I see it, you have three main options moving forward:

1. You can do nothing to intentionally continue working with Mental Wholeness.

This is a totally legitimate option.

Maybe you’re feeling a hard “no” right now to continue with this, and that’s cool. Perhaps you have a lot of competing priorities right now and you just know the timing isn’t right. Maybe you’re completely uninterested. (If that’s you, though… I doubt you’d still be here).

If you’ve been following along with this content, I’d be willing to bet that Mental Wholeness will continue to unfold in your life whether you give your focus to it or not. There’s no shame in coasting along with this, letting things unfold naturally until you feel a strong “yes” to continue.

Even if that “yes” never comes, it’s totally OK.

2. You can continue to integrate Mental Wholeness alone.

Your answers are not inside of me – they’re inside of you.

You don’t need anything outside of yourself to be successful. Period.

That being said, there’s a lot of value in creating a strong support system around you that’s plugged into what you’re working on. You deserve support as you go through the process. You deserve to surround yourself with people who see you and value every part of you, who can hold space for you to grow comfortably into the best possible version of yourself.  

When I say the best possible version of yourself – I mean the version of you that’s the most fully YOU.

Eventually, if you keep practicing, Mental Wholeness will lead you towards the community you’ve always wanted. You deserve to have that community – exactly as you are, right now.

Still, you might genuinely be in a place where you want to practice some of these things on your own for a while. Sometimes, that’s 100% the right decision. Again, the whole point of this is to follow your internal guidance, so I hope that you’ll do that.

3. You can get my support with Mental Wholeness.

Mental Wholeness Integration (2)

It’s relatively easy to stick with something new when you’re excited at the beginning and you’re working towards something you really want.

If you want to make Mental Wholeness a lasting pattern for you, this is where the real work truly starts.

Take the next several days to catch up on anything you’ve missed and reflect on the components of Mental Wholeness: Acceptance, Body Buzz, Beliefs, Clarity, Energy, Emotional Alchemy, Boundaries, and Trust.

Some of you are going to want more support and you’ll want to know what’s next. If that’s you, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for my next blog post. I’ll definitely make sure you have access to what you need.

Until then, it’s time to integrate. Here are the questions we’ve covered so far:

What are my intentions here?

What does Mental Wholeness mean to me?

What am I most resisting in my life right now?

How can I be more accepting of myself and others today?

What can I do to bring my body more love, comfort, and pleasure – right in this moment?

What would make my body buzz right now?

What beliefs are holding me back from fulfilling my purpose?

Am I ready to let go of those beliefs today?

If I’m not ready, what will it take to get ready?

What beliefs would be more helpful when it comes to accomplishing my goals?

What am I creating right now?

What do I WANT to create?

What will I see/hear/smell/taste/touch when I’ve succeeded?

Who is the person who already has what I want (or something close to it)?

How can I be more like that person right now?

How does that person FEEL? How does that person make others feel?

What emotion is waiting right under the surface of my awareness, needing to be felt?

Where in my life am I accepting less than I deserve? What line is being crossed? How can I better respect this boundary within myself today?  

What do I really want and need in my life right now?

What action would feel good and bring me some joy or pleasure?

Take that action now. (Especially if you’ve walked through this whole exercise!)

I created Mental Wholeness as a step-by-step for getting our mental, physical, and energetic ducks in a row, so we can build easy momentum towards our biggest goals.

It’s helpful to practice these strategies over and over again to create consistent alignment within yourself over time.

Focusing on these steps is sure to stir up some goodness in your life. It’ll make you more magnetic to the things you want. You’ll access a deeper sense of spiritual alignment, too (whatever that means to you).

You’ll become more deeply who you are.

It won’t all be rainbows and butterflies, but Mental Wholeness also gives you a place to go when life happens and things get rough. It’ll offer you a compass to ensure you come through on track towards your deepest, truest goals.

You only need to choose to practice.

Simply remember our conversation while you’re doing your everyday thing and get curious.

When you think of it, remind yourself of your intentions, and ask yourself – what does Mental Wholeness mean to me?

Keep in mind as we go through that these concepts will weave together and layer on top of each other. I would LOVE to hear any additional connections/insights/thoughts you have!

Applying these things in your own way is more important than sticking rigidly to my outline.
